After retiring seven years ago, Gordon Bright realized he wasn’t finished working. Bright found LifeStream and learned it was a great way to give back to others. Gordon began volunteering for LifeStream during the seasonal AngelWish program four years ago. AngelWish is LifeStream’s annual holiday program that coodinates the delivery of gift packages to older adults who are alone during the holidays.
When Gordon came to volunteer for LifeStream, he didn’t come alone. Ashley and Payton are Gordon’s two granddaughters. Gordon wanted to make sure that even at a young age, his granddaughters knew the importance of helping others.
“Volunteering taught them humility. Both have been with me to deliver to clients and they got to see how other less fortunate people live and how grateful they are for what we bring,” Bright said.
In the first year alone, Gordon and his granddaughters delivered between 75 and 100 gift bags to clients in the Anderson area. Laura Bray, the LifeStream Volunteer Administrator, has always relied on Gordon in times of uncertainty.
“When I call Gordon out of the blue, he is always willing to help. If I am ever in a hard spot, Gordon always helps me out, “ Bray said.
LifeStream greatly appreciates all that Gordon and his family have done to help others in our community. We need more volunteers like Gordon to help us this holiday season, and more donors to help us fund the program and provide the gifts.
