What We Do
LifeStream Services is a nationally accredited, award-winning non-profit that offers a variety of programs and services to help people at risk of losing their independence, their families, and their communities in East Central Indiana.
Last year alone, LifeStream touched the lives of over 19,000 older adults and people with disabilities by helping them remain independent through programs and services including transportation, in-home care management, home-delivered meals, senior cafes, caregiver support, guardianship, information and referrals, and much more.
LifeStream is governed by a Board of Directors and several advisory councils including, Guardianship, Transportation, and Quality Housing Development. Members of the Board and Advisory Councils come from across the 12 counties LifeStream serves and provide insight in meeting the needs of our clients in East Central Indiana.
Our staff includes over 130 full- and part-time employees who are devoted to our mission.

LifeStream Services began with a grant for a Senior Nutrition Program in 1972. The eight areas of the state that applied for grants began offering services in the Fall of 1973. The true beginning of LifeStream began in 1974 when Ball State University, with the leadership of Dr. John R. Craddock, applied and received a grant to develop an Area Agency on Aging in both Area 9 (Richmond area) and Area 6 (Muncie area). LifeStream was then known as Area 6 Council on Aging and was located in the basement of College Avenue United Methodist Church.
In what started as a Nutrition Program for seniors, expanded to include more programs and services to help keep seniors independent in their communities. In 1993, Area 6 Council on Aging became Area 6 Community and Senior Services, Inc. to reflect the new direction of focusing on assisting individuals to attain and/or keep their independence.
From a church basement to a small office space, Area 6 found a new home in Yorktown, IN and a new name, LifeStream Services, Inc. in April 1996. LifeStream Services has transformed drastically since its beginning. Thousands of seniors and people with disabilities have remained independent because of the programs and services LifeStream provides.
