November is National Caregivers Month! This month is a time to recognize, appreciate, and celebrate caregivers for all they do. If you step in to provide help or assistance to a friend, family member, or loved one—you’re a caregiver.

Caregiving takes immense dedication and resilience to continue the quality care they give to their loved ones. There are a number of ways you can support the caregiver in your life, especially this month—take a look at a few of the tips below to see how you can show your appreciation for the caregiver in your life.

Say Thanks: Expressing gratitude verbally can make someone’s day. A simple “thank you” can go a long way for an overwhelmed caregiver! Don’t let them forget that they are appreciated and seen.

Offer a Helping Hand: Many caregivers carry the weight of their responsibilities alone. Offering to take over a small task to make their day a little easier is a great way to show support. There are also options for respite care available—if you’d like more information on respite care in your area, reach out to LifeStream at (765) 759-1121.

Share Resources: There are many helpful resources out there for caregivers, including books, podcasts, music, and support groups. Caregivers may not be able to make the time to seek out available resources on their own, so presenting these options to them can make it more accessible and ease their minds. LifeStream also has a Caregiver Lending Library in the entrance of the Yorktown office with educational books to support you on your caregiving journey.

Caregiver Support: Resources and support are essential for caregivers’ well-being, which ultimately benefits the individual with care needs as well. LifeStream can help with support, transitions, education, and planning as you step in to caregiving. LifeStream’s STEP In Caregiver Programs are a comprehensive way to educate and support family caregivers, care partners, and people with care needs. We hold monthly Caregiver Gathering support groups in multiple counties across East Central Indiana, as well as offer educational courses and much more.

National Caregivers Month is an opportunity to highlight the appreciation and gratitude toward every caregiver in our community; however, we hope you feel appreciated every day. LifeStream Services is here to support and promote a comprehensive approach to caregiving.
