Due to the COVID-19 pandemic, events in 2020 look a lot different than previous years. Organizations have had to make the decision to cancel the events and schedule for next year, or adapt and convert their events to still meet safety guidelines. When the pandemic began, LifeStream made the decision to postpone the Healthy Aging Expo from May to August. Because we serve the most vulnerable population to the virus, we adapted the event to a drive-thru format.
The Healthy Aging Expo has been largely attended by older adults in previous years, and we wanted those we serve to know that although we may be physically distant, we are still here to help and provide programs and services. On August 13 at 9:30am, the line started to form. Over 250 older adults drove through the Kuhlman Center parking lot to receive a goodie bag, lunch, and greetings from over 30 local vendors who formed a tailgate lot with their information on display to share with community members as they drove through.
One participant exclaimed,
“Thank you so much for doing this. This was a great way to get out of the house and see some familiar faces!”
The Drive-Thru Healthy Aging Expo was made possible by The Leland Legacy, Reid Health Alliance Medicare, 101.7 The Point, Kicks96, and The Legend 95.3.
