Dementia Friendly Communities

The Dementia Friends Indiana initiative, an outreach of Dementia Friendly America®, seeks to educate communities about dementia, break down the stigma surrounding dementia, and implement practical changes that make life easier to navigate for those with dementia and their loved ones.

Someone who wants to make a positive difference in the lives of people living with dementia through increased awareness and support.

Dementia affects every community and is a significant burden on the mental and physical health of family caregivers. There is still a significant misunderstanding and lack of knowledge about the disease resulting in stigma and isolation for those living with dementia and their caregivers.

  • Watch a series of online videos. If you prefer to watch videos, an overview video will provide information about dementia, how to recognize the signs, and simple actions you can take to make your community more dementia friendly. After watching the video, you will be prompted to select three more sector-specific video shorts. Once you have viewed the overview and three video shorts, you will be able to register as a Dementia Friend and print a certificate.
  • Attend an in-person session.
  • Join our virtual information session. We meet via Zoom on the second Tuesday of the month from 1pm to 2pm. To attend the virtual session, click here.

LifeStream Services partners with the Alzheimer’s Association Greater Indiana Chapter and Dementia Friends Indiana to offer a virtual Dementia Caregiver Support Group.
